Project Toolbox Mental Health Tips Workshop

We all get caught in our heads overthinking from time to time. Whether it’s worrying what other people are thinking of us, predicting that the worst is going to happen, or setting unrealistic expectations on ourselves, we fall for all sorts of thinking traps. When we get caught in these thinking traps, doubt creeps in, anxiety shows up, and self-criticism rises which results in us becoming disengaged at Uni, work or in our social lives. Toolbox Education takes the best evidence-based tools from the world of psychology and proactively teaches them to high school and university students through fun and relatable workshops. In this workshop, we will learn how to recognise when these thinking traps are showing up and how to challenge these unhelpful thoughts to create new, balanced and productive ways of thinking.

Topics in the Workshop Include:

  • Pro-active psychological tools

  • Practical and simple skills based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Fun, relatable and engaging workshop!

Future Forums: The New Science of Consciousness

Co-presented by Museums Victoria and the University of Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences

Historically, the exploration of consciousness was predominantly viewed through spiritual or philosophical lenses, but new scientific research is beginning to draw out compelling biological theories and explanations for consciousness and selfhood.

In this forum, presented by Museums Victoria and the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences, hear from acclaimed international speaker and neuroscientist Anil Seth on the biological basis of conscious experience and what it means for the future of humanity.

Anil Seth has gained a reputation as both a leading expert on the neuroscience of consciousness and one of most prominent spokespeople for this relatively new field of science. In this forum, he will discuss the key findings of his international bestseller Being You: A New Science of Consciousness and what it means to have a conscious experience of the world around you.

Following Anil Seth’s keynote presentation, he will join forces with Cognitive Neuroscience Professor Olivia Carter (University of Melbourne), and multi-award-winning ABC journalist and presenter Natasha Mitchell to discuss the future of neuroscience and why it is emerging as one of the most exciting contributions to twenty-first-century science.

Time: 6:30 - 7:30PM

Location: Melbourne Museum (Museum Theatre)
